President Trump has just posted that he had a phone call with President Putin of Russia
U.S. President Donald Trump had a busy day on the phone Wednesday, holding lengthy conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and later with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Trump announced on social media that he and Putin agreed to work toward ending the war in Ukraine, saying they both want to "stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine." He added that teams from both sides will begin peace negotiations immediately.
Trump also mentioned that they discussed various other issues and made plans for reciprocal visits to each other’s countries.
The Kremlin confirmed the call, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stating it lasted nearly 90 minutes. Peskov said Putin emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of the conflict and that both leaders agreed peace could only be achieved through negotiations.
Later in the day, Zelenskyy confirmed his own call with Trump on social media.
Zelenskyy said they had an extended discussion about the possibility of making peace and spoke about preparing a new agreement focused on security, economic cooperation, and resource partnerships.
He added that both sides agreed to maintain regular communication and are planning future meetings.
