Rivian to adopt Tesla charging, joining Ford and GM

Rivian is the latest EV company that has finally decided to adopt Tesla's charging standard. This will be implemented for the R1T pickup and the R1S SUV.
The EV company will be joining other major companies like Ford and General Motors that have already adopted the North American Charging Standard (NACS). The company is reportedly also backed up by Amazon.
The new R1T and R1S models with the NACS-style charging ports are expected to start in 2025 and by 2024, Rivian owners will be able to access the Tesla Supercharger network.
This means Rivian owners will be able to access 12,000 fast charging stations stretched across the US and Canada. These stations are now accessible to other EVs thoruhg Combined Charging System (CCS) chargers with the help of an adaptor.
So far, Rivian sold almost 8,000 EVs in Q1, which is ahead of BMW and Audi, but still behind Ford and General Motors. During this period, Tesla had already sold over 161,000 EVs in the US alone.
Recently, it was announced that Rivian was set to lose its Nasdaq-100 position, to be replaced by ON Semiconductor. George Soros sold 10.8 million Rivian shares in Q1, leaving just 3.6 million shares.
