Steve Bannon: Trump is gonna get a third term
Former White House strategist and MAGA podcast host Steve Bannon suggested in a recent interview that there is a plan for President Donald Trump to attempt to remain in office beyond the two-term limit set by the U.S. Constitution.
“Trump is going to be president in ’28, and people just ought to get accommodated with that,” Bannon told The Economist in an interview published October 23.
Although Bannon, who served a four-month prison sentence last year and has since pleaded guilty to separate fraud charges, no longer holds a formal role in the administration, he claimed there are “many different alternatives” for ensuring Trump stays in power. “At the appropriate time, we’ll lay out what the plan is,” he added. “But there is a plan.”
Trump has repeatedly floated the idea of serving a third term since his 2024 reelection, despite the 22nd Amendment, which explicitly limits presidents to two four-year terms, whether consecutive or not. His continued references to a potential 2028 campaign have raised alarms among critics who view the remarks as an attempt to test the limits of executive authority.
At recent public events, Trump has continued to tease the prospect. “Should I run again? You tell me,” he asked an audience at a White House reception in February. Meanwhile, his campaign operation and the Trump Organization have begun selling “Trump 2028” hats, further fueling speculation.
The idea has also gained symbolic traction among supporters — including attendees wearing “Trump 2028” merchandise at public events such as a June 2025 policy forum in Detroit with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
