T-Mobile, TMUS, was hacked by China

T-Mobile's (TMUS.O) network was among those targeted in a Chinese cyber-espionage operation that infiltrated multiple U.S. and international telecommunications companies, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The report stated that hackers associated with a Chinese intelligence agency breached T-Mobile’s systems as part of a prolonged campaign to eavesdrop on cellphone communications of high-value intelligence targets. The timing of the attack was not specified.

"T-Mobile is closely monitoring this industry-wide attack, and at this time, T-Mobile systems and data have not been impacted in any significant way. We have no evidence of impacts to customer information," a company spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal.

The report noted that it remains unclear what information, if any, the hackers obtained about T-Mobile customers' calls or communication records.

T-Mobile has not yet responded to a request for comment from Reuters.

On Wednesday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) revealed that China-linked hackers intercepted surveillance data intended for American law enforcement agencies after breaching an unspecified number of telecom companies.
