The Biden administration has approved more than 16 million people for student loan forgiveness, per CNBC.
More than 60% of the 26 million people who applied to the program have had their loans sent to servicers for discharge.
In August, President Joe Biden announced that he’d forgive at least $10,000, and up to $20,000, in federal student loan debt for tens of millions of borrowers.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration said in a new court filing that it will ask the Supreme Court to lift an injunction and allow a major student loan debt relief program to resume.
The Biden administration stopped accepting applications for its relief earlier in the month of November after a federal district judge in Texas struck down its plan last week, calling it “unconstitutional.”
