The Treasury is planning to mint a $1 coin featuring Trump’s face for America’s 250th anniversary
The Treasury Department is weighing the production of a one-dollar coin featuring President Donald Trump to mark the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence next year, a spokesperson confirmed Friday.
The draft design, overseen by U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach, places Trump’s profile on one side. The reverse shows him with a clenched fist in front of an American flag, accompanied by the words “FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT.”
“Despite the radical left’s forced shutdown of our government, the facts are clear: Under the historic leadership of President Donald J. Trump, our nation is entering its 250th anniversary stronger, more prosperous, and better than ever before,” a Treasury Department spokesperson said. “While a final $1 dollar coin design has not yet been selected to commemorate the United States’ semiquincentennial, this first draft reflects well the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, even in the face of immense obstacles.”
Bipartisan legislation passed in 2020, and signed by Trump in his first term, authorizes the Treasury Secretary to issue $1 coins in 2026 that must be “emblematic of the United States semiquincentennial.”
Beach, who oversees the U.S. Mint, posted on X Friday that the administration would share “more soon, once the obstructionist shutdown of the United States government is over.”
Living individuals are rarely portrayed on U.S. currency, and Congress has placed limits on Treasury’s authority to feature living people and presidents. It remains unclear whether the proposed Trump coin would conflict with those rules.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters Friday she did not know if Trump was aware of the effort to place his image on a coin.
