Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes bought a one-way ticket to Mexico last year after she was convicted of fraud
Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes bought a one-way ticket to Mexico last year after she was convicted of fraud, per CNBC's reporting.
Holmes was found guilty on four counts of lying to investors on Jan. 3, 2022.
"Only after the government raised this unauthorized flight with defense counsel was the trip canceled," prosecutors say.
She was sentenced to 135 months, or 11.25 years, in prison, capping the extraordinary downfall of a one-time Silicon Valley wunderkind.
U.S. District Judge Edward Davila, who oversaw the months long trial in which Ms. Holmes was convicted of running a years long fraud scheme at her blood-testing company, delivered the sentence.
