Trump Expands $5,000 'Trump Dividend' Pledge to Every US Citizen

President Donald Trump said Friday that his proposed $5,000 "Trump dividend" would go to every US citizen, including children, if Republicans win the midterm elections, expanding a pledge first made at the GOP midterm convention in Dallas. "If the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000," Trump told the convention, describing the payments as working "very much like a successful company will do a cash distribution to its shareholders." The Penn Wharton Budget Model estimates the adult-only version would cost about $1.35 trillion. Including children pushes it to roughly $1.58 trillion. Vice President JD Vance said wealthy Americans would be excluded, which would lower the cost to about $1.15 trillion. Trump has pointed to tariff revenue as funding, though economists note current tariff receipts cover only a fraction of the cost, and Congress would still have to authorize the spending. No funding measure currently exists.
