Trump Plans Major Overhaul of D.C.'s East Potomac Golf Course

President Donald Trump has announced plans to renovate Washington D.C.'s East Potomac Golf Links, aiming to transform it into a championship-level course capable of hosting major tournaments. Construction is slated to begin on September 1.

Renovation Details

The proposed overhaul includes redesigning the existing layout into a par-72, 7,660-yard, 18-hole course, along with a short pitch-and-putt course and expanded practice areas. The goal is to elevate the course to a standard suitable for events like the U.S. Open and PGA Championship.

Debris from the demolition of the White House East Wing, containing lead and other toxic metals, has been dumped on the site, raising environmental concerns. Additionally, the redevelopment faces legal challenges, including a lawsuit alleging violations of environmental laws and the park's historic status.

Community Response

Local groups, such as "Save East Po," are opposing the upscale transformation, advocating for the preservation of public access and affordability. They argue that the redevelopment could price out local golfers and limit recreational space.
