Trump has called for billionaire Democratic donor George Soros to face racketeering and corruption charges

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump used his social media platform Truth Social to call for billionaire George Soros and his son to be charged under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

“George Soros, and his wonderful Radical Left son, should be charged with RICO because of their support of Violent Protests, and much more, all throughout the United States of America,” Trump wrote.

The RICO law is typically used to prosecute organized crime groups. In his post, however, Trump did not provide evidence or clarify whether Soros was under any form of investigation. He went on to describe Soros and his organization as “radical left-wing psychopaths.”

Background on George Soros

George Soros, a Hungarian-American billionaire, is best known for his philanthropy through the Open Society Foundations (OSF), which has supported numerous initiatives worldwide aimed at promoting democracy, human rights, and justice. He is also a significant donor to the Democratic Party in the U.S.

Trump and his allies have repeatedly targeted Soros in the past, accusing him of playing a role in migration issues and other political controversies—claims that have not been substantiated.

Response from Open Society Foundations

In response to Trump’s remarks, the Open Society Foundations rejected the accusations. A spokesperson told Euronews Business: “These accusations are outrageous and false. The Open Society Foundations do not support or fund violent protests.” The organization reiterated that its mission is to “advance human rights, justice, and democratic principles in the US and around the world.”
