Trump has said: Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State

U.S. president-elect Donald Trump has taken another swipe at Canada, suggesting it could become the 51st state of the United States.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that many Canadians support the idea, citing potential savings on taxes and military protection. He added that he thinks it’s a “great idea.”

Trump has repeatedly mocked Canada in recent days, referring to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as “Governor” instead of prime minister while doubling down on the notion of Canada joining the U.S.

The comments come amid political turbulence for Trudeau, who is grappling with the unexpected resignation of Chrystia Freeland from cabinet and growing pressure from within the Liberal Party to step down.

Trump also issued a warning, vowing to impose steep tariffs on Canadian goods when he assumes office next month unless Canada takes stronger action to curb the flow of migrants and illegal drugs into the U.S.
