Trump Bought Up to $25 Million in Meta Stock and $5 Million in SpaceX Debt
Trump's August disclosure shows up to $25M in Meta stock bought Aug. 21 and up to $5M in SpaceX notes bought Aug. 18, two days before a space policy signing.
The president's biggest August trades
President Donald Trump bought as much as $25 million in Meta stock and as much as $5 million in SpaceX debt in August, according to a new financial disclosure released October 8.
The anchor trade of the month was a purchase of between $5 million and $25 million in Meta shares on August 21. That same day, his accounts also bought between $1 million and $5 million each of Netflix, AT&T, ConocoPhillips, Abbott Laboratories and Chevron.
The SpaceX trade and its timing
Three days earlier, on August 18, Trump's accounts bought $1 million to $5 million in SpaceX senior unsecured notes. The corporate debt pays 5.35% a year and matures in July 2031.
Two days after that purchase, Trump signed a policy directive aimed at expanding commercial space transportation, targeting more than 1,000 U.S. launches and reentries a year by 2030. The directive does not name SpaceX, which already flies missions for NASA.
The full month in context
Trump's accounts executed 517 securities trades in August, totaling between $74.3 million and $273 million. The disclosure lists each trade only as a value range, so exact sums stay hidden.
Purchases totaled at least $44.2 million while sales reached at least $30.1 million. Mid-tier buys in the $500,000 to $1 million range included Nvidia, AMD, Datadog, Dell, Palo Alto Networks, T-Mobile, Boeing, Home Depot and Church & Dwight.
A Trump Organization spokesperson has said the holdings sit in fully discretionary accounts managed by third-party financial institutions, with no involvement from Trump or his family in picking investments.

Options market and stocks to watch
A sitting president buying META in size is a headline the options market notices. The $25 million Meta purchase was the largest single August trade, and traders will watch whether copycat flow shows up in Meta calls.
SPCX debt is the more unusual line: a president holding SpaceX notes days before signing a pro-launch directive raises eyebrows, and any policy follow-through is a tailwind for the space trade broadly.
The August 21 basket itself reads like a large-cap shopping list: NFLX, T, COP, ABT and CVX. When disclosures like this drop, unusual-whales-style flow trackers often spot sympathy buying in the named tickers. Track it on the Unusual Whales news feed.
