Trump Jokes That Guessing 'Mohammed' for a Name From the Middle East Works 'About a 65% Chance' of the Time

The joke, delivered in Georgia

President Donald Trump joked about the popularity of the name Mohammad in the Muslim world while mocking Iran's presidency during a campaign speech in Dalton, Georgia on Friday, per Reuters.

"If you're in doubt about somebody's name from the Middle East, just say Mohammed, you have about a 65% chance," Trump told the crowd. "Hello, Mohammed. I've done it for years now. I've never been wrong."

Trump told a Georgia rally that if you are in doubt about somebody's name from the Middle East, just say Mohammed, claiming about a 65% chance of being right and that he has never been wrong.

Mocking Tehran in a hangar at Dalton

Trump made the comment while discussing Iran at a rally held in a hangar at Dalton Municipal Airport, where he was campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, per Reuters. He said Iran is the only country where nobody wants to be president, then acted out asking several people named Mohammad whether they wanted the job. Masoud Pezeshkian has been president of Iran since 2024. The Georgia crowd gave the joke a muted response.

Mohammad is one of the most common male names among Muslims, who often name their sons after the Prophet Mohammad. Rights advocates and Muslim advocacy groups have repeatedly criticised Trump for rhetoric they say demonises and mocks Muslims, immigrants and ethnic minorities, and Reuters noted he has escalated such rhetoric during the midterm campaign season, including against Somali and Muslim Americans.

At the same rally, Trump repeated his vow that Iran would never get a nuclear weapon, seven months after the United States and Israel launched a war on Tehran aimed in part at crippling its nuclear programme.

Options market and stocks to watch

The market content of a Dalton rally is Iran, not the joke. A president campaigning on the vow that Tehran will never get a nuclear weapon, seven months into a US-Israel war on Iran, keeps the escalation premium alive in crude: USO and the producers in XLE are the first read on any headline out of the region.

Defence stays bid while the war does: LMT and RTX price continued operations and replenishment. Watch oil into the November 3 midterms and any comment on the nuclear file, and follow the story on the Unusual Whales news feed.
