Trump says will sign executive order to end paper straws

President Trump said Friday he will sign an executive order next week to reverse the Biden administration's plan to phase out plastic straws in the federal government by 2027.

This move is part of Trump’s broader effort to roll back Biden-era environmental programs. Previously, Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement and has taken steps to dismantle environmental justice initiatives within the EPA.

The Biden administration announced in July a plan to phase out single-use plastics across federal agencies by 2035 as part of a larger strategy to combat plastic pollution and reduce the environmental impact of plastic production.

Trump has criticized paper straws in the past. In 2019, his reelection campaign sold reusable plastic straws, calling paper alternatives ineffective and promoting them on his website with the slogan: "Liberal paper straws don’t work."

On Truth Social, Trump reiterated his stance, writing, "I’m ending the ridiculous Biden push for Paper Straws, which don’t work. BACK TO PLASTIC!"

Elon Musk later reacted on X, posting, "GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER!" along with a screenshot of Trump’s statement.
