Trump: This is the Golden Age of America. We are rapidly reversing the economic calamity we inherited…

Donald Trump used his speech to the UN General Assembly to call for an end to what he described as the “failed experiment of open borders,” accusing the organisation of enabling an “invasion” of Western countries.

He singled out Europe, warning the continent was in “serious trouble” over migration and calling its continued purchases of Russian energy “embarrassing.”

In a wide-ranging address, Trump dismissed climate change as the “greatest con job ever,” saying UN predictions “were wrong” — remarks that drew audible gasps in the chamber, according to the BBC.

The U.S. president also claimed credit for ending “seven wars” since his return to the White House, accusing the UN of failing to help resolve conflicts. He repeated his stance that recognising a Palestinian state would be “a reward for the terrible atrocities” committed by Hamas, and urged: “Release the hostages now.”

The speech came after UN Secretary-General António Guterres opened the assembly with a call to strengthen the institution and return to its founding principles. Trump instead said the body needed to change, even mocking its building and technology — pointing out a broken escalator and a failed teleprompter he encountered before and during his remarks.
