Trump Warns US Will 'Burn' Like France if Radical Democrats Come to Power

A new addition to the stump speech

Trump says the US will 'burn' like France if 'radical Democrats' come to power. Campaigning in Park City, Kansas on Monday, the president pointed to widespread protests in France as a scenario that could erupt in the United States unless Republicans win, telling the crowd: "When you see burning steeples and raging fires in France, just remember that is what the radical Democrats want to do to America."

"We're not going to let that happen to this country," he added, per Reuters. France has seen some of its worst unrest in years in recent days, as huge protests over the cost of living and underfunded public services descended into riots and looting. Trump provided no evidence linking the French unrest to US Democrats, and rights advocates criticized the remarks, which leaned on the anti-immigrant framing he has used across his three presidential campaigns.

Republicans are playing defense in red states

The rally was held on behalf of Republican incumbent Roger Marshall, in a Kansas Senate seat long held by Republicans but now in danger of falling. It was Trump's latest foray into conservative states where Republican candidates are on defense, as voter frustration over the Iran war and rising prices has tightened races the party expected to hold comfortably.

"I love you Kansas, but I'm here for a guy named Roger Marshall," Trump said at the top of the speech. The Kansas stop is part of a closing midterm push built around affordability and disorder abroad, even as the president himself has struggled to make goods and services more affordable at home, the same cost-of-living pressure driving the French protests he cited.

Options market and stocks to watch

Midterm control of Congress is the macro event of the next two weeks, and tight races in normally safe Republican states are the kind of signal that moves positioning before election night. Index hedges through SPY and QQQ typically build as the vote approaches, and prediction-market volume on control of the Senate is traded through event contracts on platforms like HOOD.

The sectors with the most direct policy exposure to a change in congressional control are health insurers, energy and defense. Watch the Kansas race polling and early-vote data for read-throughs to other defense-state Senate contests, and follow election coverage on the Unusual Whales news feed.
