Tucker Carlson: Trump ‘Directly’ Ordered Epstein Files Cover-Up

Tucker Carlson is publicly accusing President Donald Trump of personally ordering the cover-up of the Jeffrey Epstein files, citing a private conversation between the two before their falling out. The claim, made in a new Vanity Fair profile, marks the first time an insider has pointed the finger directly at Trump himself.

What Carlson actually said

The former Fox News host said Trump personally ordered the cover-up of federal files on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and admitted as much to him in an interview with Vanity Fair. Carlson said he pressed the president on the files in the summer of 2025, when the administration was under intense scrutiny over its handling of them.

“The order to cover it up came from Trump,” Carlson claimed to the magazine. He said he asked why, and Trump gave a long, emotional explanation that framed the issue as a plot against him, like Russiagate.

Why this claim is different

Carlson is the first person to say the order came from Trump himself, with earlier accounts describing only the West Wing’s scramble to contain the fallout. That shifts the story from staff-level damage control to a direct presidential decision.

The White House did not directly deny the account, but said Trump has been totally exonerated on anything relating to Epstein and has done more for victims than anyone before.

The political backdrop

The release of the Epstein Files, forced through a congressional vote, and strikes on Iran led Carlson to go from a staunch Trump supporter to one of his most vocal critics on the right. Figures including Ken Paxton, Marjorie Taylor-Greene, and Thomas Massie have also started to distance themselves from the former president over the handling of the files.

Trump has publicly dismissed the ongoing scrutiny, calling it a Democrat hoax and comparing it to the Kennedy situation. The intra-MAGA split is now the loudest it has been all cycle.

Why traders should care

Political risk around the White House tends to bleed into risk assets when it fractures the governing coalition. A widening rift between Trump and the online right could complicate the legislative calendar, tariff messaging, and any market-moving executive action into year-end.

Media names tied to the story, and platforms hosting the loudest voices in the fight, are worth monitoring for volume and flow shifts. Watch for headline-driven volatility more than a sustained repricing.
