Twitter/X is working to remove the block button

X (formerly Twitter) will now allow users to view posts from those who have blocked them. According to Elon Musk, X’s owner, the block function will still prevent blocked accounts from engaging with the blocker but will no longer restrict access to public posts.

Previously, users who were blocked would see a “You’re blocked” message when attempting to view the profile of someone who had blocked them. This not only restricted access to their posts but also to their replies, media, followers, and following list.

Sources indicate that this change is being implemented because people can already view posts from users who have blocked them by logging out or using another account. However, it has been observed that X prevents viewing profiles entirely if users are logged out.

Musk has expressed his dissatisfaction with the block feature in the past, stating it “makes no sense” and advocating for a stronger mute option instead. He has also previously suggested removing the block function entirely, except for direct messages.
