US State Department warns against traveling to China
Per CNN
The US State Department has issued a warning for individuals who might have been planning to take a vacation or basically traveling to China. The warning highlighted that this decision should be reconsidered due to there being a risk of wrongful detention.
Mainland China was listed as a "Level 3: Reconsider Travel" destination due to inherent risks that could happen to US travelers. This was initially released in March.
A state department spokesperson has given an explanation as to why they are now releasing this warning about potential travels to China.
“The Travel Advisory has been updated to advise U.S. citizens to reconsider travel to Mainland China due to the risk of wrongful detention... The Department of State has determined the risk of wrongful detention of U.S. nationals by the PRC government exists in the PRC,”
Recently, it was revealed that China was rewarding its "best-behaved" citizens with cheaper travel and cheaper loans. These rewards were designed to incentivize citizens to act better.
At the start of the year, it was reported that China's population started shrinking in 2022. This was the first time that its population has started to become smaller since 1960 as the country only had 9.56 million births in 2022 compared to 10.62 in 2021.
