WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram are experiencing massive outages
Meta's suite of apps, including Facebook and Instagram, experienced outages on Wednesday, leaving users unable to access the platforms.
The disruptions began around 9:57 a.m. PST and affected not only Facebook and Instagram but also Threads, WhatsApp, and Messenger, according to user reports tracked by the internet monitoring site Downdetector.
At the peak of the outage at 10:11 a.m. PST, more than 100,000 users reported issues with Facebook, according to Downdetector data.
Meta addressed the situation with a post on social media platform X, acknowledging the technical difficulties. "We are aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps," the company said. "We’re working to restore services as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience."
A separate post on X specifically addressing Instagram users confirmed the outage, stating, "We recognize there’s a technical issue impacting some people’s ability to access Instagram."
This is not the first time Meta's apps have gone down this year. In March 2024, a two-hour outage affected its platforms, coinciding with Super Tuesday during the U.S. presidential primaries.
