DOJ Drops Fraud Charges Against Gautam Adani After Hiring Trump's Lawyer

The U.S. Department of Justice is dropping fraud charges against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani. This follows Adani's hiring of Robert J. Giuffra Jr., President Trump's personal lawyer, and an offer to invest $10 billion in the U.S. economy.

Background on the Charges

In November 2024, Adani and two executives were indicted for allegedly paying $250 million in bribes to Indian officials to secure energy contracts, while misleading U.S. investors about the company's anti-bribery policies.

Adani's legal team, led by Giuffra, met with DOJ officials in April 2026. They presented arguments challenging the evidence and jurisdiction of the case. During this meeting, they proposed a $10 billion investment in the U.S. and the creation of 15,000 jobs if the charges were dropped.

DOJ's Decision

The DOJ is preparing to dismiss the charges, with an announcement expected soon. This decision aligns with the administration's stance on foreign bribery cases and follows Adani's legal and investment proposals.

SEC Settlement
