Iran Offers to Broker Saudi Talks With the Houthis
Iran offers to broker talks between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis
Iran said it will help broker talks between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthis, after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke by phone on Sunday with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
Araghchi said Tehran was ready to provide any assistance to facilitate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen and to reach a political solution. He warned that insisting on a military approach while disregarding a political solution would only complicate the situation.
The offer followed strikes on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh over the weekend. Saudi authorities reported the Saturday strike killed 12 people and injured 309, with a second strike on Sunday killing one person and injuring 11, while some wire reports put the Saturday toll at 13 killed and more than 300 wounded.
Tehran positions itself as mediator
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei reiterated the offer on Monday, saying Iran was deeply concerned about developments on the Arabian Peninsula and did not want hostilities to continue between two Islamic countries. He said continued escalation would benefit only Israel.
Saudi Arabia's account of the call was shorter, saying the ministers discussed the recent escalation and efforts on it. Riyadh has not publicly endorsed the mediation offer. The Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, are aligned with Iran and control Yemen's capital, Sanaa, while Saudi Arabia has led a coalition backing Yemen's recognized government since 2015.

How this could hit the options market
Any credible de escalation path in the Gulf is an oil story first. Crude linked names and funds such as USO, XOM and CVX can give back a geopolitical premium if talks gain traction, and add to it if Riyadh rejects the offer or strikes resume.
Defense names including LMT and RTX often move the other way on escalation headlines, especially around air defense demand. Options traders will watch for volatility in energy first, where a single airport or refinery headline can reprice the whole complex.
