MTG Claims White House Is Weighing Nuclear Strikes on Iran
Marjorie Taylor Greene claims the White House is holding strategy meetings on using nuclear weapons against Iran. The claim is unverified, but the tail risk is real for oil, defense, and safe havens.
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said on X Sunday that senior White House officials are holding strategy meetings about the potential use of nuclear weapons against Iran. She offered no evidence, no documents, and no names, but insisted she is not speculating.
What Greene Actually Said
Greene asserted that the high-level discussions were “real” and accused the Trump administration of lowering the threshold for nuclear action. She did not provide evidence or documents, nor did she identify specific officials involved in the alleged discussions.
Greene also claimed the administration is disregarding internal US intelligence assessments which, according to her, indicate Iran is not on the verge of developing a nuclear weapon. She warned that any escalation could trigger a much wider global conflict.
The White House Response
In a statement to Fox News Digital, White House spokesman Davis Ingle said, “President Trump’s strong and decisive leadership has already ended eight wars and saved countless lives, and he will continue to make America and the world a safer place,” before calling Greene “a former congresswoman, traitor, and a quitter.”
There has been no public confirmation from the US government or defence officials that Washington has altered its nuclear posture or is actively preparing nuclear strikes against Iran.

The Backdrop: Depleted Stockpiles and a Tactical Nuke Debate
Her comments come as the US military struggles with depleted weapons stocks, with Reuters reporting that American forces had used “virtually all” of their long-range precision missiles during the war, while heavy expenditure of Patriot and THAAD interceptors has weakened US readiness elsewhere.
NBC News reported this month that the Pentagon was drafting a strategy that would give shorter-range tactical nuclear weapons a greater role in regional conflicts, with a senior US defence official telling NBC, “Our view is that we need credible nuclear options.”
Why Traders Should Care
Any headline tying Washington to nuclear escalation in the Gulf is a tail-risk event for oil, defense, and safe-haven flows. The US has maintained pressure on Iran while asserting control over key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.
Roughly a fifth of global oil transits Hormuz, so even unverified claims can move crude, tanker rates, and volatility in defense names. Watch the tape for follow-through headlines out of the White House and Pentagon, and check other coverage on Unusual Whales news.
Options Market and Stocks to Watch
Watch for reactions across energy, defense, and safe-haven proxies:
XOM and CVX: watch for bids on any spike in crude tied to Middle East escalation risk.
LMT and RTX: watch for flows on missile and interceptor demand narratives, particularly with Patriot and THAAD stockpiles reportedly drawn down.
USO: watch for near-dated call activity if Hormuz risk headlines accelerate.
GLD: watch for safe-haven bids if geopolitical risk premium expands.
