Security cameras near a Manhattan hotel where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was planning to stay caught three men climbing out of the sewer system before dawn, according to NBC News. The NYPD says it does not appear to be tied to Netanyahu or the UN General Assembly, but sweeps are underway.

Security cameras near a New York City hotel where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was planning to stay captured three men emerging from sewers before dawn on Wednesday, the New York Police Department said. The three men popped out from the sewer at about 4:30 a.m.
This appearance by these mysterious scavengers does not appear to be connected to Netanyahu or the ongoing United Nations General Assembly in Manhattan.
Scrap metal, not a plot
The NYPD framed the encounter as part of a broader pattern. Officials said they have seen a number of incidents over the past few months of individuals going into the sewer system to look for valuables and other scrap metal after a storm.
Still, out of an abundance of caution given the UN General Assembly and the sensitivity of the location, the NYPD said it is conducting additional security sweeps with its federal partners.

Not the first time
Investigators believe the men were behind similar incidents earlier this year, when scavengers were captured on video emerging from city sewers. The men, not affiliated with any public works crews, were seen climbing out of manholes in various Brooklyn neighborhoods in late May.
