Netanyahu Targets Mamdani in Fiery UN Speech, Denies Gaza Genocide

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu turned his UN General Assembly address into a direct confrontation with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, rejecting genocide accusations and firing back at critics as delegates walked out of the chamber.

Netanyahu goes after Mamdani by name

“You falsely, repeatedly accuse Israel of genocide,” Netanyahu said. “You try to stop me from coming here. You try to silence me. Well, you can’t silence me. You can’t silence the truth. Here’s a simple truth: Israel didn’t commit genocide. Israel prevented genocide.”

“Mr. Mamdani, since you were elected mayor of the city, many Jews no longer feel safe in New York,” Netanyahu said in his U.N. address. The prime minister also accused the mayor of antisemitism and support for Hamas.

Mamdani hits back

“As he has done time and again, Prime Minister Netanyahu used his speech to repeat baseless lies meant to sanitize his genocide of Palestinians. Yet no lie can change the fact that he remains the subject of an International Criminal Court arrest warrant alleging war crimes and crimes against humanity,” Mamdani said in his statement.

Mamdani had pledged to arrest Netanyahu if he traveled to New York City. He later acknowledged he lacked the authority to do that. Shortly before Netanyahu took the stage, Mamdani shared a video about planting an olive tree at Gracie Mansion with Palestinian families from Gaza.

Walkouts and a broader message

At the opening of his address, Netanyahu called those walking out “moral cowards” as invited guests in the gallery gave the prime minister a standing ovation and booed the diplomats heading to the exits.

Netanyahu also said Turkey has become the latest “super-spreader of antisemitic lies,” accusing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of tyranny and of hosting Hamas terror chiefs. He also told the assembly that the fall of the Iranian government is “only a matter of time,” predicting that one day the Iranian people “will be free.”
