Trump to Attend Knicks Game 3 at MSG, Watch Party Canceled

President Donald Trump is heading to Madison Square Garden on Monday night for Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs, and the security footprint around the arena has effectively shut down the surrounding blocks.

The setup

It is Trump’s first Knicks game at MSG in over a decade, returning as president to watch Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night. The 79-year-old president grabbed the seat after an invitation from team owner James Dolan.

Game 3 marks the first time MSG has hosted a Finals game since 1999, when the Spurs closed out the Knicks in five for the franchise’s first title. The Knicks come in up 2-0 in the series.

Watch party scrapped

A city permit application for a watch party outside Madison Square Garden was not granted, an NYPD spokesperson said. The streets around the arena will be completely sealed off to anyone without a game ticket due to heightened security tied to Trump’s attendance, and the city added a substitute watch party at Bryant Park for up to 5,000 fans.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said watch parties outside the Garden will resume on Wednesday for Game 4.

Security on lockdown

Fans should expect an extremely large police presence and airport-style security, with all attendees passing through TSA-style magnetometer screening before entering the arena. A strict no-bag policy will be enforced alongside the TSA-style screening procedure.

Fans were advised to arrive at least two hours before tipoff and to review the Secret Service’s list of prohibited items.

Ticket math

Resale prices for Game 3 have run into the thousands, with reports of $9,000-plus seats drawing political pushback. Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani said he will attend Game 3 but is paying for his own ticket and will not be courtside or in a suite.

Options market and stocks to watch

The Finals run has implications across sports media, gaming, and arena ownership. A few names worth watching:

  • MSGS: Madison Square Garden Sports owns the Knicks. Watch for flow tied to Finals momentum and franchise valuation chatter.
  • MSGE: MSG Entertainment runs the arena itself, so a deep Finals run lifts event-related sentiment.
  • DIS: ABC, owned by Disney, is broadcasting the game. Watch ad-load and ratings commentary.
  • DKNG and FLUT: Sportsbooks always see Finals-related handle spikes, particularly around marquee matchups.
