Yandex Data Centres Hit, Automated Traffic Collapses After Strikes
Ukrainian strikes hit Yandex data centres, automated traffic falls
Ukrainian drone strikes hit three Yandex data centres in Russia over four days in early October, in Sasovo on October 8, Kaluga on October 9 and Vladimir on October 11, according to NetBlocks, Cloudflare Radar data and multiple reports.
NetBlocks reported Yandex Cloud throughput falling to roughly 30 percent and Yandex LLC traffic to about 63 percent after the strikes. Cloudflare Radar showed automated requests from Yandex's main network, AS13238, collapsing to near its floor by October 11 and 12.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on October 12 that observers had noticed less incitement and fewer bots on social media after the strikes. Some users also reported sharp drops in activity on some Reddit communities, a claim repeated in Euronews coverage cited by the post.
Why the bot claim needs caution
Technical analysts and fact checkers caution that the Cloudflare measure covers automated requests from Yandex itself, largely search crawlers and other service traffic, not a headcount of troll or propaganda accounts on social platforms. No disinformation monitor has confirmed a broad fall in Russian troll activity by a specific amount.
That distinction matters. The infrastructure damage is well documented, with reports that repairs to damaged server equipment could take up to six months and that backup capacity helped keep some services running. Whether influence operations were materially reduced remains unproven.

How this could hit the options market
Social platform names are the first place traders will look for a read through, including RDDT, META and GOOGL, if advertisers or users believe platform activity has genuinely changed. So far the verified impact is on Russian infrastructure, not on U.S. platform traffic or earnings.
Cyber and defense names could see sympathy flow, including CRWD and PANW, while Yandex itself no longer trades on U.S. exchanges. Options traders should treat any spike as headline driven until platform data confirms a real change in engagement.
